This was a direct response to the "should we move" and preserving posts/threads.
In the HBMCP there is now a NEW option to allow the ability for each community to have Hostboard import the images that are displayed in posts. As individuals come and go, the the remote hosting for those images might also disappear which would leave the post "broken" (no images to display) When this feature is enabled (off by default), Hostboard will attempt to grab a copy of those images and place them on our server. It will then re-write the post to point to the new internally store picture preserving the post for as long as it remains active. When enabled the process will most likely take a lot of time as it is set to work in small batches as not to impact the overall sites performance. For the images it cant copy, the post will remain unchanged.
Now I'll be honest, this feature is a pay to play option as I can see disk requirements climbing rather quickly which means an increase in monthly operating costs. However as promised to John and Todd, as each feature is rolled out, the current communities that are hosted on Hostboard, these would be free as a thank you to putting up with all the headaches, past, present and future.
